Record tag values and distribute durations automatically
A tag can store its own value for every entry. This lets you record not only which customer, project, or purpose an entry belongs to, but also a duration, number, or currency amount. WorkTimes can total these values later. It can also distribute duration values automatically across several tags.
Choose the appropriate value type
The type selected when you create a tag determines its input format:
- Duration for time values such as project or customer hours.
- Numeric for quantities such as mileage or units produced.
- Currency for amounts such as expenses or income.
The value belongs to the assignment between a tag and an entry. The same tag can therefore have a different value on each entry.
Enter a value manually
- Open the required entry and choose Tags.
- Tap the value field beside a tag.
- Enter the duration, number, or currency amount. A non-zero value selects the tag automatically.
- For a negative value, use the plus/minus button above the keyboard.
- Go back and save the entry.
You can assign several tags with different values to one entry. Tapping a selected tag removes its assignment and its value from that entry.
Distribute duration automatically
Auto Duration distributes the entry’s complete duration equally across all selected Duration tags. For example, two selected Duration tags each receive four hours from an eight-hour entry. Numeric and Currency tags are not changed.
- Open Tags in the entry.
- Open the menu (•••) and enable Auto Duration.
- Select the required Duration tags.
When you select another Duration tag or remove one, WorkTimes distributes the entry duration again. If it cannot divide the duration into equal whole minutes, the first listed tag receives the remaining minute or minutes.
Switch between automatic and manual values
Enabling Auto Duration immediately replaces manual values on selected Duration tags with the equal distribution. While it is enabled, you cannot edit those duration values manually.
When you disable Auto Duration, the last distributed values remain and can be edited individually. The setting remains active for later entries until you disable it.
Review positive and negative values
Tag values can be positive or negative, allowing the same tag to track income and expenses or later corrections. In the Tags report, WorkTimes adds the values for the selected period; negative values reduce the displayed total.
